If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience, come learn how to teach English in Cambodia. Surrounded by Thailand, Vietnam and Lao, Cambodia offers students a unique opportunity to teach English in South East Asia. Dubbed the “Kingdom of Wonder,” Cambodia gained its independence from France in the 1950s and is today one of the world’s few remaining monarchies.
Going back centuries, Cambodia’s rich history provides a landscape of Hindu, Buddhist and Western influences alike. Visit the infamous Angkor Wat, a vast temple complex world renowned for its architectural design. Likewise, a number of historical landmarks, museums and temples are found in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital, and Siem Reap. Other events unique to the country are participating in the Royal Ploughing Ceremony and Water Festival or visit the indigenous people of the rural areas. Don’t be fooled by Cambodia’s ancient heritage, however, there are plenty of modern activities to keep you entertained during your TEFL course. Whether it’s visiting the lush beaches of Cambodia’s coastline, or dining out at night and sampling the exquisite Khmer cuisine, you can always find something to do. Eco-tourism is in full force in Cambodia and you can always take a day to explore the jungle and mountain caves around the country.
One of the things that make Cambodia a perfect place to learn to teach English is the high demand for English teachers. In general, teachers are given a great deal of respect throughout Asia and Cambodia is no exception. With the very low cost of living and high number of people who want to learn English, it is no wonder people from all over the world choose to teach English and live in Cambodia.
The training takes place on the grounds of Pannasastra University of Cambodia. The classroom is roomy and air-conditioned, with computers and wifi available in the student accommodations.
The course starts off with the first two weeks being academic in nature, introducing you to the fundamentals of teaching methodology and English language usage. Then, in the second two weeks, the focus shifts to the more practical aspects of teaching in Cambodia, with observation time and practice teaching with real students. You'll also gain a thorough introduction to Khmer language and culture at this time.
This particular course is very special in that trainees are taken on two excursions during their four weeks: one trip to Angkor Wat to visit the most famous of Buddhist religious sites in SE Asia, and another trip to a Cambodian beach resort to soak up some sand and sun! Both trips are included in the course fees.
